From wool factory to food court

In 2023, a food court (in Norwegian "Mathall") will open at AMFI Vågen. In the protected building that formerly housed Sandnes Uldvarefabrik, the region's best destination for food experiences will arrive.

The origin of the term "mathall" can be found in the bustling world metropolises and large department stores where entire floors were often filled with tempting food. Here, customers could go from booth to booth and be tempted by delicacies from all over the world, often with the possibility of getting simple service from the counters. Among the finest and most famous are, for example, KaDeWe in Berlin, Harrod's in London and Saluhallen on Östermalm in Stockholm. In Norway, we have no long traditions with mathalls, but in line with the increasing interest in food and food culture, there have also been more and more mathalls here in recent years.

The Sandnes region needs a destination where good food service providers can create a good and attractive environment. So with Sandnes as a growing city in an exciting development, it was only natural that we also got a food hall here.

At AMFI Vågen, we will have several restaurants and stalls serving food from different parts of the world. We will have outdoor seating along the entire facade facing the park and Olivia will establish one of Norway's largest roof terraces where you can enjoy both the food and the view.

When the new Mathallen is in place, it will be located in the protected part of AMFI Vågen. In collaboration with skilled architects, we have put a lot of effort into the design and expression to be able to retain the industrial look of this beautiful building.

Mathallen will consist of 9 unique serving booths including its own bar. The operators will be carefully selected to offer food experiences for every taste. Here, families and friends can gather and eat food from different corners of the world. The Mathallen itself will be approximately 1500m² with seating for 270 people.
